The other was so severely malnourished, emaciated and unwell that it had to be euthanised. Becky Dawson, who traded as kitten breeder Lizzie Scarrott, has been convicted after selling the two kittens, whose appalling condition was discovered just 48 hours later. She received 20 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, a 10-year ban on keeping most animals (with dogs exempted) and a ban on breeding or selling any animal. But this case comes with a troubling history. In 2018, Dawson was featured on BBC Watchdog following concerns about sick kittens, multiple deaths and animal welfare. Yet years later, further kittens were suffering. How many animals have been affected? How many more have died? The true number may never be known. UKACF believes anyone convicted of animal cruelty should face a lifetime ban on keeping, breeding or selling animals. After years of concerns and now another conviction, why is any species still exempt? Two kittens are dead. A suspended sentence and a time-limited ban will offer little comfort to those who believe this should never have happened again. Source UKACF.
