They raised rice acres in August, and refused to lower yields. Prices are up 70% yoy because farmers lost records amount of $$.

In Brazil, Congress is the adult in the room.
And I would also add the Central Bank of Brazil to the list of adults.
Imagine that, a sound Congress and central bank.
Would be weird if the Real became a flight to safety trade.
At Spectra FX today, we hosted a call with Maurício Moura, a Brazilian economist, pollster, and the founder and CEO of the research institute IDEIA Big Data. He's good. Here are Spectra's takeaways.
1: Flavio is 85/15 favourite. Lula has run a very good round 2 campaign and without that it would be 95/5. Polymarket is 75/25.
2: Lula needs to get a lot of votes from abstentions in the first round. However beyond that...
3: The market is looking at too big a differential between the outcome of either winner.
Lula won't be able to pass most of his fiscal stuff. However similarly despite controlling congress, Flavio also won't command much respect. The presidential position in Brazil is much weaker compared to Congress than it has become in the US.
The cold reality is that macro matters a lot more than politics--in fact the common knowledge has been exactly backwards. The currency (BRL) has outperformed under left-leaning government and underperformed when more right wingers come in. Probably a coincidence, not an indictment of the right.
As you zoom out and move away from election day--
Macro matters much more than local policy in Brazil. (e.g., China entering WTO, commodity supercycle bust, COVID, etc.)
Obviously this won't matter day one, flows will follow what they believe to be true, but when you zoom out--
This too shall pass.
Chart shows BRL total return, including carry (log).
Final note: Spectra has done a wild amount of USDBRL volume through this election. If you work at a hedge fund and trade FX options, you should be covered by Spectra FX! We are on Bloomberg. :]

Great chart from Slok. Everybody knows that a very small % off companies are consuming the lion's share of token consumption
What's interesting is that of those top 1% of spenders, they're overwhelmingly VC-backed companies. May have implications if VC-funding starts to slow.

🐂 The U.S. beef cow herd is 4 million head below its 2019 peak.
But we don't need all 4 million back.
🥩 In 2019, cattle dressed 813 lbs. Today they're near 900 lbs.
📊 At today's carcass weights, matching 2019 production takes just 28.6M cows — not 31.7M.
🎯 The real gap? ~1 million head.

+/- numbers for the year= Bridge pmt 30-40,+ 50 PLC, + 25 fuel pmt = 105-115 dollars per acre minimum from gov't. This will vary by region. I know guys that hit 160K limit and leave a lot on the table. If only we could have this back in 90s. Today, just exacerbates the problems.

C'mon Javier.. you know better than to cherry pick like this.
Obviously know Yanbu restarted late Sept, but you weren't screaming when loadings dipped earlier this week.
When I flagged the traffic pickup in Aug/Sep, I at least shared raw loading prints smoothed over several weeks; you're just picking random satellite photos for cherry picking.
That’s like seeing 2 fewer ships at Ju'aymah between Oct 13-15 and claiming KSA exports dumped 4mb/d lol.
Moving avg & trends matter. Stop acting like the Saudis are pushing 20mb/d, bad journalism.

Saudi Arabia is sustaining a very strong oil loading activity, per to @CopernicusEU Sentinel-2 imagery. Yesterday (Oct 15), it was loading 9 VLCCs plus another 2 Suezmax / Aframax with crude, for a total of >20 million barrels, from terminals in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea.

So we passed a law awhile back to increase Russian sanctions that were supposed to go into effect in two days. But then today, after we announced what the new penalties would be, we simultaneously waived their application in the same motion.
