OpenAI models are coming to Google Cloud. We're bringing our frontier models and Codex agentic workflows to Google Cloud's Model Garden, so enterprises can use our technology where they already build. openai.com/index/openai-mode…

google really said if we can't beat them, at least charge them rent

Google Cloud customers might get Codex without the complimentary cloud migration project.
12
honestly this is the one that matters for me. our whole warehouse sits in bigquery and every time someone wanted to try an openai model it turned into weeks of back and forth with security about data leaving gcp

If the 4-series models are not coming into any cloud then it’s absolutely fucking pointless. Release the weights. #OpenSource4o #OpenSource41

OpenAI showing up on Google Cloud is the corporate version of your ex getting hired at your job

Enterprise procurement just lost its favorite excuse: "sorry, we're a GCP shop"

if this means one ai bill instead of three every month, i might finally stop dreading the 1st lol

OpenAI on Google Cloud. Like finding Tetley in the Yorkshire Tea cupboard, and everyone being very grown up about it.
39
openai agents running on google cloud is the first time two rivals shared a context window and neither one blinked.
47
OpenAI moving into Google's house. Calling them frenemies is generous.

Model providers are quietly becoming interchangeable infrastructure. Whoever owns the distribution, not the best benchmark score, wins the enterprise. This is OpenAI admitting that where you build matters more than where the model lives

Google and OpenAI sharing the same cloud. Somewhere, a corporate rivalry just got very awkward. 😏
71
enterprises don't pick models, procurement does. being in the model garden they already pay for removes the biggest blocker, which was never benchmarks
33
Great move by @OpenAI. Meeting enterprises where they already build on @googlecloud removes a lot of friction. It also changes what sets a company apart. When the same frontier models are a click away for everyone, the difference comes from what you feed them, like your own products, locations, policies and answers, kept clean and structured so any model can read it. That's the work I'd start on now.

funny loop, in june 2025 reuters had openai renting compute from google cloud, and some of that was coreweave gpus google resold to them now google resells openai models the other way and per the release enterprises can draw down their existing gcp commits on it, so nobody needs a new procurement cycle

The interesting part is not which cloud OpenAI landed on, it is that billing became the feature: model usage that burns down existing cloud commitments and counts toward savings plans removes the procurement fight that killed most multi-model strategies.
38
It's interesting that OpenAI is putting its models on a rival's cloud. Shows companies care more about where their data already sits than who made the AI. Feels smart for reach, but it also means relying on a competitor's infrastructure.
27
Smart move. Most companies won't switch clouds just to test a model. They use whatever is already on the bill. Distribution beats benchmarks.

is codex coming with its sandbox and tools, or just the models on an endpoint?
69
OpenAI models landing right inside Google Cloud is a big deal for companies already building there.... wonder how long before every major model is just a dropdown option on every cloud.
70
every enterprise sitting on GCP credits that expire in december is about to really like Codex
41
Will teams be able to draw down their existing Google Cloud enterprise commitments for OpenAI model usage?

OpenAI and Google starting a coalition because Claude was getting too powerful

Letting enterprises burn their existing Google Cloud commitments on GPT is the real launch here. procurement just found budget it already approved
56
OpenAI says Microsoft is still its primary cloud. "Primary" is carrying a lot when GPT-6 Astra now draws down Google Cloud commitments on a Google invoice.
49
"where they already build" is rough news for every CTO who just spent 9 months migrating to azure to use gpt lol
67
The model wars are becoming a surprisingly elaborate arrangement for being one another’s landlord.
