The thing about Mao Zedong was that he was not just a dictator. He was actually a f***ing idiot to such an extent that it would make Trump’s ridiculous claims of himself being a “stable genius” almost credible.
Mao forced farmers to make steel out of farm tools and in small village furnaces, which left farmers with no tools to work the fields. He forced farmers to chase away insect-eating sparrows, which led yo locust-infested fields. Millions starved to death as a result.
He thought that turning the population on itself in endless struggle was the path to proletariat prosperity - all it had done was to make more starve to death, loss of Chinese know-how across the board and China left on the brink of bankruptcy.
His views on dental hygiene were so off the planet that he eschewed both “modern” or more traditional Chinese modes of dental care, to the point that his doctors and others all mention the rotting stench that emanated from his mouth.
Not all dictators are idiots - Deng Xiaoping was a dictator but not an idiot. But Mao excelled himself in his idiotmaxxing, more a buffoonish Idi Amin than a dangerously bright Emperor Kangxi.

sanctions are bad policy i get that. but Cuba trades with Canada, the EU, China and most of the world. to blame its collapse "in large part" on the US instead of 60+ years of central planning is a bizarre take from Mises of all places, it makes no sense. and illegal under what law?

Mises Institute is a Rothbardian/Hoppean organization which has little to do with Ludwig von Mises. They're authright contrarians who say they're "libertarian" to trick people into associating their pro-tyranny, pro-slavery, and pro-Holocaust beliefs with freedom and capitalism.

Irving most certainly did deny that there were millions of Jews killed in Europe in WWII. He reduced the number to about 600K, roughly equal to that of German civilians killed in Allied strategic bombing, so he could draw a false moral equivalence between the two.
Also, the initial estimates of the Holocaust death count were indeed too high, because they were based on the killing capacity of the Nazi Holocaust industry. Then, later, mainstream Holocaust historians downgraded those estimates, largely based on rail shipments of Jews to the death camps where the Jews went in and didn't come out. THAT is what resulted in the estimate of about 6 million deaths.
Meanwhile, Holocaust Deniers went around accusing all the Jewish Holocaust survivors of lying to extort money from Germany, all the Holocaust historians of persecuting them, saying that rail cars couldn't hold as many Jews as the Nazis' own records said they did (they could), claiming there weren't any gas chambers at Auschwitz (there were), and that all the Nazi eyewitnesses to the Holocaust were lying or tortured into false confessions.

Healthy, normal libertarianism: Israel needs more property rights respect and free markets so people can flourish.
Israel derangement syndrome: Every problem in the world is due to Israel and everything would be better if Muslims were in control!

Reminder: 2 human types become a libertarian.
One type loves himself and humanity,
and wants to see the human potential fulfilled.
The other type sees libertarianism as a way to show
the finger to the world.
Libertarianism is just an avenue for their contrarianism.
How libertarians today deal with the ‘jewish question’
is a good way to tell the one type from the other.

A lot of people on both sides of the aisle fail to understand this. It’s why, for example, DOGE utterly failed to reduce the deficit. USAID just was not a meaningful expense.

Rothbard blamed Britain for getting us into WWI & WWII, then blamed Israel for getting us into wars in the Middle East after the Israeli War of Independence. He literally said that in every war of the 20th century America and Britain were in the wrong, or more wrong, than any of our enemies. He blamed Israel for the Six Day War. And, of course, he blamed us for the Cold War, too.
Rothbard blamed us (America & Britain) for WWI, WWII, the Cold War, the Korean War, Vietnam War, the Falklands War, the IRA's campaign against the UK, etc.
Of course, Germany started WWI, WWII (with Japan), Stalin started the Cold War, the Communists (North Korea, Soviets, & Red China) started the Korean War & the Vietnam War (North Vietnam instead of North Korea), Argentina started the Falklands War, the IRA (with Soviet backing) started the Troubles, etc. He blamed Britain for Germany's invasion of Poland, and even blamed Finland for its invasion by the Soviets.
Rothbard made DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender) his only method of foreign policy analysis. He had a perfect record of claiming the exact opposite of the truth in these matters. There isn't a totalitarian regime whose propaganda he wasn't willing to parrot approvingly on this, whether it be Hitler's, Stalin's, Kim Il-Sung's, Ho Chi Minh's, Nasser's, the Junta's, etc.
I've never seen any Rothbardian make the argument you cite about American economic might making us secure enough to withdraw from the rest of the world. Instead, his followers adhere with absolute loyalty to his demented foreign policy positions.

We've periodically reminded Marxist-Leninist tankies that Holodomor-denying commies are morally equivalent to Holocaust deniers, and should be treated the same by society.
The reverse is also true.

Joseph Goebbels was an outright economic Marxist who deviously cloaked his Marxism with Germanic ethnocentrism.
He called for a "class struggle" and said "once we have taken over the state, Germany will become a state of labor, a workers’ state." He yearned for a "labor state" (no different than the one in Soviet Russia) and linked his anti-Semitism to his anti-capitalism, saying the two "go together":
"As socialists we are opponents of the Jews because we see in the Hebrews the incarnation of capitalism, of the misuse of the nation’s goods."
He wanted to alleviate Jews of their capital so that he could socialize it and use it for German state projects. But he was also against non-Jewish capitalists so the "Jewish" thing was a foil for his generic hostility to business owners and "capital" like any Marxist.
Since his anti-Jewish stance was schizophrenic and shapeshifting, he also attacked them on the grounds that they led Marxism even though he was a closeted Marxist who echoed Marxist rhetoric about capitalism.
In his 1939 screed against England, he framed the war with England as a war between capitalism (England) and socialism (Germany):
"England is a capitalist democracy. Germany is a socialist people’s state. And it is not the case that we think England is the richest land on earth. There are lords and City men in England who are in fact the richest men on earth. The broad masses, however, see little of this wealth."
He gave away the game in a 1925 speech in a beer hall, in which he declared Lenin the "greatest man" next to Hitler and argued there were only "slight differences" between Communism and Hitlerism.
