The thing about Mao Zedong was that he was not just a dictator. He was actually a f***ing idiot to such an extent that it would make Trump’s ridiculous claims of himself being a “stable genius” almost credible.
Mao forced farmers to make steel out of farm tools and in small village furnaces, which left farmers with no tools to work the fields. He forced farmers to chase away insect-eating sparrows, which led yo locust-infested fields. Millions starved to death as a result.
He thought that turning the population on itself in endless struggle was the path to proletariat prosperity - all it had done was to make more starve to death, loss of Chinese know-how across the board and China left on the brink of bankruptcy.
His views on dental hygiene were so off the planet that he eschewed both “modern” or more traditional Chinese modes of dental care, to the point that his doctors and others all mention the rotting stench that emanated from his mouth.
Not all dictators are idiots - Deng Xiaoping was a dictator but not an idiot. But Mao excelled himself in his idiotmaxxing, more a buffoonish Idi Amin than a dangerously bright Emperor Kangxi.

sanctions are bad policy i get that. but Cuba trades with Canada, the EU, China and most of the world. to blame its collapse "in large part" on the US instead of 60+ years of central planning is a bizarre take from Mises of all places, it makes no sense. and illegal under what law?
Exhibit No. 69420 about how the Mises Institute exists now to reflexively side with anyone who opposes the US government.

I guarantee you that David Friedman, whom I've known personally for decades, neither denies individual rights nor claims that Somali law is the most just example of stateless law he knows of. You ought to be ashamed of misrepresenting him like that.
And I largely agree w/ you about Hoppe, so that's not behind my objection here. You owe your listeners truth, not falsehoods.
You can criticize the language and hyperbole he used if you want (some of the claims are definitely overstated), but Hoppe did nothing wrong by raising empirical and historical questions that should be open to examination and debate rather than treated as off-limits.
The real problem here, in my opinion, is the reflexive reaction that treats the topics he touches on as implicitly too taboo, such that merely discussing them is itself considered illegitimate and should be met with this sort of labeling in an apparent attempt to chill conversation and speech.
This sort of attitude, in my view, predominantly exists as a symptom of how states and their allied institutions turn contested narratives into enforced orthodoxy, which is just one more reason why the state must be abolished.
However, Hoppe never presents as explicitly "anti-american", "pro-hitler revisionism", or "blatantly anti-semitic" for any of his comments here, just anti-state.
Hoppe makes a big fuss in his speech about how Britain declared war on Germany when Germany didn't declare war on Britain.
Then Hoppe says Britain dragged the US into the war.
Doesn't mention that Hitler declared war on the US when the US had not declared war on Germany.
Why the double standard? A double standard which favors Hitler. Yes, it's pro-Hitler revisionism.

Mises Institute is a Rothbardian/Hoppean organization which has little to do with Ludwig von Mises. They're authright contrarians who say they're "libertarian" to trick people into associating their pro-tyranny, pro-slavery, and pro-Holocaust beliefs with freedom and capitalism.
I’m not sure why Hoppe said the things he did about the Holocaust. I want to ask him clarifying questions directly. Obviously, it is not inherently a bad thing to reject mainstream narratives or to engage in revisionism. But I have seen so many dumb and outright wrong arguments made to cast doubt on the severity of the Holocaust. I think the systematic murder of millions of men, women, and children in a few years, nearly ALL noncombatants, is clearly far worse than what Israel has done in Gaza.
Irving most certainly did deny that there were millions of Jews killed in Europe in WWII. He reduced the number to about 600K, roughly equal to that of German civilians killed in Allied strategic bombing, so he could draw a false moral equivalence between the two.
Also, the initial estimates of the Holocaust death count were indeed too high, because they were based on the killing capacity of the Nazi Holocaust industry. Then, later, mainstream Holocaust historians downgraded those estimates, largely based on rail shipments of Jews to the death camps where the Jews went in and didn't come out. THAT is what resulted in the estimate of about 6 million deaths.
Meanwhile, Holocaust Deniers went around accusing all the Jewish Holocaust survivors of lying to extort money from Germany, all the Holocaust historians of persecuting them, saying that rail cars couldn't hold as many Jews as the Nazis' own records said they did (they could), claiming there weren't any gas chambers at Auschwitz (there were), and that all the Nazi eyewitnesses to the Holocaust were lying or tortured into false confessions.

Neither Rothbard nor Hoppe ever studied the Holocaust in any detail, except for the deranged lunatic rantings of Holocaust Deniers like Harry Elmer Barnes and David Hoggan. Rothbard also had friendly correspondence with the American neo-Nazi Willis Carto, founder of the Institute for Historial Review and Noontide Press, two of the main Holocaust Denial outlets in America.
Furthermore, the Nuremburg Trials didn't go anywhere near far enough. A whole lot more Nazis needed to be convicted & executed for their crimes, but they were let off easy.

Just a short list of retarded implications Hoppe made in his PFS video.
- No Holocaust footage, unlike Gaza
Yeah there is footage: encyclopedia.ushmm.org/conte…
archive.org/details/nazi_con…
(Of course, Hoppe also ignores the footage shot by Hamas themselves and the cell and CCTV coverage of their mass murder.)
- Nothing comparable in WWI or WWII.
Nah. Actually far worse. Lidice. Ypres. Verdun. Oradour-sur-Glane. Rovaniemi. Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Dresden. World War I also marked the first industrial-scale deployment of chemical weapons, which caused over 1 million total casualties and around 90,000 deaths globally.
- "So-called Holocaust."
Only the most studied and documented genocide in history.
ushmm.org/antisemitism/holoc…
In short: Hoppe uses loose generalizations and all-or-nothing thinking to paint a BS narrative with the false victimhood mentality that your average college SJW waving a Palestinian and communist flag would screech as they sit in a makeshift campus lawn tent while sipping Starbucks.
Absolutely pathetic.
Unsurprising though for someone born in early post-war Germany whose lived experience is generational shame from 2 world war defeats and a state-funded retirement retreat to Islamic revivalist Turkey for a more culturally fitting lifestyle where his Israel derangement syndrome is socially accepted.
Hoppe has literally said that if you don't get called "anti-semitic, sexist, or racist" there's something wrong with you.
He does not whine about people lying about him.
Replying to @jwsherrod
Why doesn't he just come out and say it? Hoppe and the others ALWAYS end up in this weird place where they insist BOTH that there's nothing wrong with anti-Semitism but how dare you suggest they're anti-Semitic.
I think that "other groups do it too" is a red herring. The US foreign policy hasn't been curated about any other country other than Israel for the last 30 years. The US isn't funding other countries' massacres of tens of thousands of civilians. Israel stole nukes from the US.
Replying to @PaperhackWriter
both. it IS a problem with the Jews, it WOULD be a problem if it were another group. those two are not mutually exclusive

Not as stated, I believe many extremely powerful Jews are intent on achieving this, partially through in-group preference and partially due to disproportionate success. This is not a conspiracy really, it's mostly just a result of individual self interest
