Ukrainian mathematician Maryna Viazovska solved a problem that had puzzled mathematicians for over 400 years. Even Johannes Kepler and Isaac Newton couldn’t crack it.
We live in a three-dimensional world, but Maryna solved a puzzle in an eight-dimensional space—something that’s very hard even to imagine.
She was born in Kyiv, studied at Taras Shevchenko University, worked in Bonn and Berlin, and at just 33 became a professor in Lausanne.
So what was the problem? It’s about how to pack identical spheres as tightly as possible in space. This question was first asked by Kepler back in 1611. Over time, scientists found answers for two and three dimensions—but not for eight.
Maryna proved that in eight dimensions, the densest packing is formed by a special mathematical structure called a lattice. What’s even more amazing is that she did it in just 23 pages, while earlier attempts took hundreds.
In 2022, she was awarded the Fields Medal, the most prestigious prize in mathematics. She became only the second woman in history to receive it.
Today, Maryna Viazovska works in Lausanne, supports Ukrainian mathematicians, and brings pride to Ukraine with her achievements.

What is time, really? ⏱️
A new theoretical study in @PhysRevLett suggests next-generation trapped-ion optical clocks could experimentally reproduce things like the superposition of proper times and time-dilation-induced entanglement.

ALT Illustration of a quantum clock experiment. A round quantum state is stretched into an oval and then splits into two overlapping, rotated shapes as it evolves over time. Below, a sphere diagram shows a system starting in one state, being put into a superposition, and then slowly rotating as time passes. The image represents how quantum states change and keep track of time at extremely precise scales.

A mathematician who broke the most complex encryption system in human history realized one terrifying truth:
You cannot outwork an automated system with human effort. You can only defeat a machine by building a better machine.
His name is Alan Turing, the man who fundamentally cracked the Enigma code. He argued that we obsess over throwing more headcount at a problem and completely ignore building the architecture that solves it automatically.
Here are 6 operational frameworks to stop trading time for output, build algorithmic leverage, and automate your reality:

IonQ | Most investors have no clue how important this is…
IonQ’s Bhaskar said the roadmap is at least five years ahead of what any other industry player projects.
$IONQ
Mihir Bhaskar is IonQ's SVP of Global R&D and co-founded Lightsynq, the quantum memory company IonQ acquired. He showed a three year roadmap for IonQ's quantum interconnect.
In 2026, the interconnect connects IonQ's own ion trap computers to each other inside a datacenter.
The 2027 generation extends the same interconnect to neutral atom computers built by other companies, across a metropolitan area up to 30 kilometers. The roadmap names high-frequency trading, DI-QKD, and VLBI as applications for this layer. DI-QKD is device-independent quantum key distribution, an emerging encryption protocol. VLBI is very long baseline interferometry, the technique radio astronomers use to combine signals from telescopes thousands of kilometers apart.
By 2028, the roadmap projects compatibility with superconducting computers built by other companies and reach past 100 kilometers. The applications named are full quantum data centers and blind quantum computing. Blind quantum computing is the protocol that lets a customer run a program on a remote quantum computer without revealing the program to the operator.
Bhaskar said the roadmap is at least five years ahead of what any other industry player projects.
Other quantum hardware companies face the same scaling problem. Bhaskar said all quantum platforms will ultimately need to connect individual processors into a data center. The interconnect on this roadmap is the one IonQ is offering to those companies.
DARPA's HARQ program selected IonQ as the only commercial company in its hardware workstream this month. The hardware workstream is the part of the program building the actual interconnects.
IonQ made the first commercial deployment of a quantum memory node at the University of Maryland this month. The $7.5 million system joined the Mid-Atlantic Region Quantum Internet.
By 2028 the customer list for IonQ's interconnect includes the companies building neutral atom and superconducting computers.
"Today we made a deal with IonQ to start a phase one - of quantum securitizing our Lambda Rail starting with Miami Dade College, Palm Beach State College and Florida Atlantic University to spread it from there. That physical infrastructure... that fiber optic connection, that's how our universities, colleges partner - share classified confidential research and work with military assets."
J. Alex Kelly, Florida Secretary of Commerce, announced yesterday at #eMergeAmericas a new partnership with IonQ. Stay tuned for details.

Google just proved that quantum computers can break the cryptography behind Bitcoin and Ethereum.
And it is so dangerous they are refusing to publish the code.
For years, we knew quantum computers would eventually crack the math that secures the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem.
But everyone thought we had decades. They thought it would require millions of qubits to pull off.
They were wrong.
Google Research just published a whitepaper showing a massive 20-fold reduction in the physical hardware needed to break crypto.
They found a way to do it with fewer than 500,000 physical qubits in a matter of minutes.
That part is terrifying. But what Google did next is unprecedented.
Normally, in computing research, you publish your code so others can verify it.
Google didn't. They locked it down.
They realized that publishing the quantum circuits would literally hand bad actors the instruction manual to drain wallets and destroy public confidence.
Instead, they used a state-of-the-art "zero-knowledge proof" to prove to the world they successfully mapped the exploit, without actually revealing the attack vectors.
They proved they built the weapon, but refused to show the blueprints.
Now, they are issuing a massive warning to the blockchain ecosystem.
Transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) immediately. Stop exposing and reusing vulnerable wallet addresses.
Google has publicly set a 2029 migration timeline for their own systems. The clock is officially ticking for decentralized finance.
Existing crypto is not dead today.
Google did not actually execute this hack. The physical hardware required to run this circuit (roughly 500,000 physical qubits) does not exist yet.
Today's best quantum computers are only hovering around 1,000 physical qubits.
But the math is officially solved and Google just proved exactly how to build the key.

With extraordinary colleagues, we are developing new architectures for neutral-atom quantum processors that dramatically reduce the resource estimates for fault-tolerant quantum computing. This progress makes me optimistic that broadly useful quantum computing will soon be a reality.
We’ll continue fundamental research @Caltech to advance quantum science and technology, while building fault-tolerant quantum machines and exploring their applications @TeamOratomic.
It’s a very exciting time to be a quantum scientist!

Electron spin qubits would like to have a word...
This is huge. Quantum computing could soon fit on a chip, thanks to this breakthrough
"Researchers just built a chip-scale 674 nm stabilized laser with ultra high stability (~8.8 × 10⁻¹³), all on a silicon photonics platform."
"It runs at room temperature and can control trapped-ion qubits, handling preparation, manipulation, and measurement."
"This means quantum systems no longer need massive lab setups."
We’re moving toward compact, scalable, real-world quantum technology.
