My latest piece in @newlinesmag reflecting on the complex relationship between the Jewish-American community & #Israel & whether this relationship can survive in its current form #ShireenAbuAkleh’s killing if there is no accountability/justice for her or the #Palestinian people
NEW: Peace is necessary for Palestinians and Jews alike — we must start by demanding accountability for the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh. A personal reflection on being Jewish American by @SSiminoff for @newlinesmag newlinesmag.com/first-person…

‼️Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt, in an interview with Hadley Gamble: • “The Americans are withdrawing from the region, and the Israelis are filling the vacuum.” • “We made a mistake by choosing Marco Rubio’s track instead of the Islamabad track. Rubio’s approach will lead us nowhere.” • “I do not believe Lebanese-Israeli negotiations, in their current format, will produce results as long as Israel continues to occupy southern Lebanon.” • “The government tried, but believing that the Americans can pressure Israel to withdraw is a complete illusion.” • “Israel is seeking to erase the memories of southern Lebanon, as though preparing to establish settlements in parts of it.” • Calls for internal dialogue based on the principle that only the Lebanese state has the right to possess weapons. • Says the only way to disarm Hezbollah is through dialogue and possibly a compromise, with the support of Iran and Israel. • Suggests that the British-Irish experience could serve as a model for Hezbollah’s disarmament, noting that even Margaret Thatcher accepted a compromise with the IRA. • “I cannot accept a hardline approach toward Hezbollah if it leads to civil war.” • “We cannot eliminate the Shia community or tell them to leave. They are part of Lebanon.” • Rejects the establishment of cantons, stressing that Christians and Muslims must continue living together. • Says Israel’s policy is aimed at erasing Palestinian national identity, from Gaza to the West Bank, while pursuing territorial expansion in Syria and Lebanon. • “Regardless of who wins the Israeli elections, nothing will change.” • Says Israeli policy is rooted in the Old Testament and biblical narratives. • Calls on the United States to send better diplomats and adopt better policies toward the region. • “Syria’s Druze are taking the wrong path by choosing to become a tool in Israel’s hands.” • “If we, as Druze, do not embrace broader movements of national solidarity and Arab nationalism, we are heading toward collective suicide.” • Says the Druze in Israel do not determine their own fate, arguing that the Israeli government makes decisions affecting Druze communities in both Israel and Syria. • Calls for engagement with Iran, arguing that Hezbollah’s actual policies have been determined in Tehran since Nasrallah’s assassination and that dialogue could help reduce escalation. • “The region’s crises will not end as long as Netanyahu, the Israeli government, or Israeli society believe they can do whatever they want through force.”

Notable 1) Underscores continuity in Biden-Trump policy for ongoing Palestinian suffering + reluctance to pressure Israel even for stated US goals 2) Interesting read on who’s got reach in the party: within admin, Greenspan was close to Brett McGurk + upset Gaza policy skeptics

Many Israelis want Netanyahu out. But even as their reps fight for that, they played by his playbook and discourse in ruling out political partnership with Palestinian citizens and a solution with the Palestinians writ large. That is Netanyahu’s legacy. nytimes.com/2026/10/24/opini…

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump and his family have lost surprise elections, thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

💥#Breaking: Earlier today Lieberman, a Netanyahu rival and former Defense Minister, formally asked the AG to launch a criminal investigation for treason against Netanyahu. "The attempt to drag the State of Israel into war on the eve of elections, together with the willingness to sacrifice IDF soldiers solely due to fear of losing the elections, constitutes treason against the state, its security, and the IDF soldiers."

"Even if he is defeated... Netanyahu could decide to launch one last strike that he may believe his successor would hesitate to execute. 💥An Israeli security official to @CNN: "Netanyahu very much wanted to carry out a joint strike against Iran before the elections, and tried to persuade Trump, but didn't get the okay. One reason for that is that IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir told US counterpart Dan Kane that a strike would harm electoral process in Israel and lead to postponement of vote."
💥My report on Netanyahu's efforts to provoke renewed war with Iran before Tuesday's elections, citing @YaronAvraham's scoop tonight and followup from Haaretz's unparalleled Amos Harel. With @JJammine on @France24_en.

There are a lot of reasons why US-Israeli defense cooperation should be pulled from the bill. One is the alarm from US intelligence professionals that embedding Israel in the Defense Dept. would create a counterintelligence nightmare. @RoKhanna is right to oppose that.
Jewish Insider writes this as if it's a gotcha headline. What do Democratic and Republican voters think about our sovereignty. My guess is they stand with me in being for Team America. jewishinsider.com/2026/10/ro…

needed video to believe he actually said this 9 days before an election.
TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.

These elections could be decided by the parties hovering around the electoral threshold. And the final pre-election polls suggest both are genuine toss-ups.

BIG: Algeria approved the deployment of army units to Niger, the country’s first official foreign troop deployment since it sent forces to support Egypt in the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. The troops are set to deploy to Madama in northern Niger, near the Libyan border, at a former French base used during Operation Barkhane. The mission is described as limited to securing oil and energy facilities, including Algerian state energy company Sonatrach’s Kafra oil block, rather than combat.

EL-SAYED: I get that the President takes personal offense to my first name. He doesn't mind as much when it's the Saudis who are funding his son-in-law's private equity. Doesn't seem to mind as much when it's the Qataris who are giving them a $400 million private jet. He just seems to have trouble pronouncing it when it's my name.  I don't care how he pronounces my name. I don't even care that he remembers my whole name. Because he can just go on and call me senator after November.

This is just pure racism. Republicans objectively are campaigning on little more than bigotry.

McConnell joins Don Bacon in threatening to block Trump agenda in the lame duck if Trump keeps throwing sweeteners to Putin
McConnell in WSJ on Trump’s relationship with Putin & the upcoming “lame-duck” session of Congress: “Mr. Trump has high hopes for a lame-duck legislative agenda, including the one-time defense spending I’ve urged the administration instead to build into full-year appropriations. Passing this agenda will require working with Republicans who know the difference between the good guys and the bad guys. Ending the obeisance to Mr. Putin may be table stakes for the end-of-year legislation. The president should plan accordingly.” wsj.com/opinion/coddling-put…
