Trump says he will decide “soon” whether to unleash another major wave of strikes on Iran following a high-level White House meeting with his national security team.
“I would rather not destroy the rest of the country if possible, but maybe I will have to. You'll know soon enough.”
According to Axios, Trump is weighing three options:
- MILITARY ESCALATION: Launch another wave of strikes to further dismantle Iran's nuclear capabilities and pressure Tehran into accepting American demands. The third carrier, the Roosevelt, is in Singapore until mid-November, so nothing big happens before then.
- ECONOMIC STRANGULATION: Maintain the naval blockade and economic pressure to force concessions without immediately reopening major combat operations.
- DIPLOMATIC DEAL: Accept significant concessions to Tehran under a proposed two-day agreement mediated by Qatar.
The Qatari proposal would unfold in two stages:
- DAY ONE: Washington lifts its naval blockade and releases some frozen Iranian funds. Tehran formally invites international nuclear inspectors to visit previously bombed facilities.
- DAY TWO: The Strait of Hormuz reopens, followed by renewed negotiations over Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpile.
Trump wants a deal that proves the war worked and a strike held in reserve if it doesn’t; the carrier’s schedule says he’s giving Doha about ten days to deliver the first before he has to choose the second.
