Populism is the triumph of hot emotion over cold facts/experience. Populist politicians promise the cure as they worsen the disease. Trump's unilateral tax hikes (tariffs) promised better economics, but they've delivered higher costs & increased complexity/uncertainty.

One aspect of MAGA I won’t miss is the elevation of broader MAGAverse figures like Paxton and Vivek over just nominating popular elected officials. It’s not even ideologically driven, but who can play Mar-a-Lago better.

Smotrich and Ben-Gvir ended with some of the lowest seat totals in today’s election, while the Arab parties secured roughly two to three times as many seats between them. So for anyone who insists on painting all Israelis with a single extreme quote from either of them - you’re simply, objectively, wrong. Smotrich and Ben-Gvir are among the least representative voices in Israeli democracy.
