Failure is the absolute worst way to learn something and sadly so many people spend their entire lives under the illusion that failure is the best way to learn anything.

Exactly
And #jtbd gives a clear, structured and precise way to listen to them without involving your product or brand in any way.
If you want to improve your product. Don't talk about it to customers.
Talk to customers. But not about it.
Talk about what they are actually trying to get done and what stands in their way. Get rid of the product bias.

Managed design in ~20 banking projects. Mktg surveys called for customizable dashboards. Prod team built them, and saw close to zero usage, consistently. All phased out in the next redesign opportunity.

Pretty helpful definition by @Vendbridge. A pain point must ... (1) express a need, not a solution / (2) be concrete, not abstract / (3) be quantified, not anecdotal. Main goal: Fulfill needs of and create value for customers ✔️ vendbridge.com/en/2020/08/25… #JTBD #uxdesign #ux

After you identify top unmet needs, express them as pain points using job stories.
Use a consistent format, like this:
When I [job step + circumstances],
I want to [new capability],
so I can [need/outcome]
(For more on pain points, see also: vendbridge.com/en/2020/08/25…)

Most value propositions we see in our practice are not designed to break habits.
A Promise-centered Value Proposition design based on Jobs-to-be-done leads to a compelling VP to break existing habits and to guide the innovation process for new products.
