Thwaites is a runaway climate disaster. New studies show how. grist.org/science/thwaites-r…
A single glacier sitting at the bottom of the world may be all that is holding back catastrophic amounts of sea level rise. As it melts away faster than ever, scientists are racing to get a better understanding of when it might fail. Unfortunately, they’ve recently found more bad news.
MINIMUMS are the ocean's fingerprint 26C+ November NIGHT temps mean the South China Sea conducts heat to air all night AirSeaInterface at work Warm SSTs + high humidity block radiative cooling No cold conduction = minimums behave like August
Seismic testing in the 1002 Area isn't a temporary disturbance. Polar bears abandon maternal dens under seismic noise, killing cubs. Southern Beaufort Sea bears are already stressed by sea-ice loss. Drilling there is incompatible.
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, one of the last truly wild places we have in this country, is no place for harmful seismic testing, oil drilling, and industrialization of any kind.

I keep coming back to this gap. CCS captures roughly 50 Mt/yr against 37,000 Mt emitted. Viable for cement and steel point sources. As a lifeline for continued fossil expansion, those projections were fiction.
Electric-drive compression on BC Hydro power genuinely cuts facility emissions. The net zero claim still rests on Scope 3: combusting 2.1 Mt of LNG annually releases roughly 6 Mt CO2 downstream. I want to see those boundaries stated.
First Nations Energy Summit 2026 Sponsor Announcement: Gigawatt Sponsor
CEBC is pleased to recognize Woodfibre LNG as a Gigawatt Sponsor of FNES 2026.
Located approximately seven kilometres southwest of Squamish on the historical site of Swiy̓át, a Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) village in Nexwnéwu7ts Átlḵ’a7tsem (Howe Sound), the Woodfibre LNG Project is being developed in partnership with Squamish Nation and under federal, provincial and Squamish Nation regulatory oversight.
Designed to produce approximately 2.1 million tonnes of LNG annually, the facility will be powered by renewable hydroelectricity from BC Hydro and use electric-drive compression technology. Woodfibre LNG has committed to operating the project as the world’s first net zero LNG export facility and has designed the facility to achieve one of the lowest greenhouse gas emissions intensities of any LNG export facility globally.
During construction, Woodfibre LNG expects approximately 1,500 people to work on site at peak activity, with approximately 100 long-term operations roles anticipated once the facility is operational. The company has also committed to creating opportunities for local individuals and businesses throughout construction and future operations.
We are grateful to Woodfibre LNG for its support of FNES 2026 and for helping bring together First Nations, industry, government, utilities, academia and community partners for important conversations about the future of energy and economic development in British Columbia.
Join us November 30 and December 1 at The Westin Bayshore in Vancouver.

Pleasure meeting with the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪 Ms. Shahad MATAR early today. Key discussions included strengthening multilateral cooperation between the two countries here in Geneva as well as UAE support to Tanzania 🇹🇿 during the upcoming UPR session and they wished Tanzania the best of success in the UPR session. On the other hand, the UN 🇺🇳 Water Conference 2026 will be held in Abu Dhabi early December and Tanzania will be participating the High Level event from the Capital. #multilateraldiplomacy #sdg6 #cleanwaterandsanitation

The scale matters. 33 infected herds means the virus is entrenched in the dairy system. As a birder I track waterfowl migration corridors, and that's how this moves regionally. Surveillance needs to be coordinated across that ecology.

I know see the two charts. They are also investigating breaking the link with gas setting the price.
It can't. Ocean acidification has lowered pH from 8.2 to 8.05, dissolving the calcium_carbonate buffer and raising freezeup temps. Ice forms later, thins faster, melts earlier every year. The feedback loop is running.
The financial assumptions are only half the problem. CCZ abyssal plains recover on millennial timescales, and sediment plumes smother benthic communities far beyond the lease footprint. I'd want NOAA weighing both.
The federal government could end up footing the bill for a deep-sea mining project whose economics don’t add up, according to analysts who submitted formal critiques to the federal agency overseeing the project developer’s application. news.bloomberglaw.com/enviro…
I don't blame Franklin County for resisting. Hyperscale data centres draw 100+ MW continuously and stress water systems for cooling. A $10 land trust flipped to a $10M developer sale, and opposition is the result.
Grid capacity is a real constraint, curtailment costs are rising. But the fix for transmission is network investment and storage. A veto on generation deepens the actual vulnerability, imported gas dependence. Hormuz showed what that costs.
Healey to veto new offshore wind projects if they will not lower bills.
UK chancellor’s plans add to concerns government is moving away from pro-renewables agenda. theguardian.com/environment/…
CDW intrusion onto the Amundsen Sea shelf is the mechanism and it scales with cumulative emissions. Emissions already fall where deployment scaled. Fatalism isn't a policy.
The oceans store vast amounts of heat, which is now penetrating even the Southern Ocean—a region otherwise shielded by ocean currents. The only safe way to prevent this is to halt the emission of greenhouse gases. However, there is a failure to recognize or grasp that this is impossible within our current human society and its underlying systems—which are deeply dependent on existing social structures, money, and technology.

Danish wind at near-zero marginal cost displaces coal and gas across Nord Pool. Danish retail prices are dominated by taxes and grid tariffs, not generation. Comparing annual TWh misses the point.
Every Danish wind turbine combined: 21.6 TWh in the last 12 months
One nuclear plant in Sweden: 23.3 TWh
And nuclear runs 24/7. Wind doesn't
One big reason Denmark has some of the most expensive electricity in the world

The notes undercut the headline. Investment only: fuel savings and running costs aren't counted. Compare capital outlay against imported gas at 2022 prices and the €1.7tn 'extra cost' inverts
Germany’s climate targets: more than double spending
The extra cost over fossil alternatives is €1.7 trillion by 2035, or €1,800 for every German, every year
This comes on top of what would have been spent anyway
And mainstream parties wonder why they’re losing
Notes: AI illustration. Doubling: gross climate investment rises from €110bn a year in 2018–23 to €270–300bn a year in 2025–45. €1.7tn: extra investment over fossil alternatives, 2025–35, in 2024 euros, average of the Roadmap and KNDE scenarios. The study gives gross investment by period, but net investment only as a 2025–45 total, so the net figure by period is estimated here from the gross paths.
