As part of the All India Tiger Estimation (AITE) 2026, the NTCA–WII Tiger Cell conducted Phase I training on the M-STrIPES mobile and desktop applications for over 350 frontline staff from Andhra Pradesh.
The training focused on the use of M-STrIPES for systematic data collection during sign surveys, line transects and vegetation plot assessments, strengthening field-level capacity for standardised, technology-enabled and science-based tiger monitoring.

A proud milestone for tiger conservation in Assam!
Nameri Tiger Reserve has received CA|TS (Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards) approval, recognising its adherence to globally accepted standards in tiger conservation and protected-area management.
What makes this achievement even more special is that with Nameri joining the list, all four Tiger Reserves of Assam, that is Kaziranga, Manas, Orang and Nameri are now CA|TS approved.
This recognition belongs to the men and women working tirelessly on the ground.
My heartiest congratulations to the entire @assamforest family, the Nameri team and everyone associated with this achievement.
A significant recognition of Assam’s continuing commitment to protecting its tigers and their habitats for generations to come.

Another proud moment for Project Cheetah!
An Indian-born cheetah has given birth to five healthy cubs at Kuno National Park, taking India’s cheetah population to 60, including 41 Indian-born cheetahs.
The cubs also mark the beginning of the Botswanan lineage in India- a significant step in building a genetically diverse and thriving cheetah population.

Another historic and joyous milestone for Project Cheetah! 🐆❤️
KJP21, a 32-month-old Indian-born female cheetah, has given birth to five healthy cubs in Kuno National Park today.
KJP21 is the third Indian-born female cheetah to give birth, after Mukhi and KGP12—an important milestone in the emergence of the next generation of India’s cheetah population.
With the arrival of these five cubs, the cheetah population in India has reached 60, including 41 Indian-born cheetahs.
Importantly, these cubs also mark the beginning of the Botswanan lineage in India, as their father is a Botswanan male cheetah—adding a new genetic lineage to India’s growing cheetah population.
Another generation born on Indian soil, adding yet another beautiful chapter to the remarkable story of cheetah reintroduction in India.
Heartfelt congratulations to the veterinarians, field staff, managers and everyone associated with Project Cheetah, whose dedication, commitment and tireless efforts have made these moments possible.
Welcome to the world, little ones 🐆

#WATCH | Alipurduar, West Bengal: Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, alongside Alipurduar BJP MP Manoj Tigga, conducts a jungle safari at the Buxa Tiger Reserve.
The visit follows the historic arrival of a three-year-old Royal Bengal tigress from Bihar's Valmiki Tiger Reserve, marking the commencement of West Bengal's first tiger relocation project.
Inspired by the vision of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji for landscape conservation and species protection, a significant milestone has been achieved in Buxa Tiger Reserve.
Tiger T138 has been reintroduced in Buxa after being translocated from Valmiki Tiger Reserve, Bihar, marking an important step towards restoring the tiger in this historic landscape.
As India observes Wildlife Week 2026, the return of the tiger to Buxa reflects a conservation approach that goes beyond reintroduction, focusing on creating the right conditions for the species to recover naturally.
This includes habitat improvement, prey-base augmentation, strengthening protection and monitoring, scientific assessment and capacity building.
The long-term objective is the establishment, over time, of a healthy, free-ranging and self-sustaining tiger population, supported by secure habitat, adequate prey, effective protection, ecological connectivity and scientific monitoring.
For this recovery to be sustainable, local communities remain an important part of the landscape. Meaningful participation can help align conservation with opportunities for eco-tourism and nature-based livelihood generation, creating pathways for communities to benefit from and contribute to the conservation of Buxa.
The return of the tiger is therefore one part of a larger journey: restoring the landscape, strengthening its ecological resilience and creating the conditions for wildlife and local communities to thrive together.
