@lsk_nbi @lawsocietykenya @twavinya @ckanjama It troubles me to know that if I were to disappear today, LSK would be this lethargic in its response. The junior bar is watching. #Callforacourtboycott on Monday.

@lsk_nbi @ckanjama An advocate has been abducted! It goes against our collective conscience for us to go on with business as usual. Nairobi has easily over 5000 advocates. The justice system should be ground to a halt till he is found. Cc:@Benign_Overlord #FreewakiliAbshir

We condemn the judicial ambush of CHADEMA Chairman Tundu Lissu, whose acquittal on capital treason was immediately followed by a four-year prison sentence for incitement. This is a grave assault on the rule of law and a calculated attempt to silence the demand for democratic reforms. The United Green Movement (UGM) Party led by @dkmaraga stands in unwavering solidarity with Tundu Lissu, his family, CHADEMA and the people of Tanzania in their struggle for democracy, justice and constitutional freedoms. We remain steadfast in our commitment to democratic liberation across our Jumuia. No amount of state terror, cross-border abductions or political imprisonment will stop the march for Mageuzi. The march for Mageuzi cannot be jailed! Read the full statement below. Kumekucha! @TunduALissu @ChademaTZ2 @USAmbTanzania @TitoMagoti @HecheJohn @MariaSTsehai @judiciarytz @kattoloo @NetoAgostinhoMP #UGMParty #TunduLissu #Mageuzi

TANZANIA’S opposition leader TUNDU LISSU has been handed a staggering FOUR-YEAR PRISON sentence despite being cleared of treason. Convicted of incitement, his imprisonment has ignited FRESH OUTRAGE, with supporters decrying what they call a BRUTAL ASSAULT on political freedom.

Tanzania High Court's ruling acquitting comrade Tundu Lissu of the politically motivated treason charges is a victory against the ultimate weapon of state intimidation. The Tanzanian regime tried to threaten him with the death penalty simply for demanding free, fair, and transparent electoral reforms but failed to prove its malicious claims because truth cannot be hidden by judicial overreach. However, the decision to convict him on the engineered, lesser charge of "incitement" and to sentence him to four years in prison is a glaring reminder of how autocrats weaponize the judiciary to silence legitimate opposition. Convicting him for his rightful defense of democracy - his call for "No Reforms, No Election" - proves that the state manufactured an offense purely to keep a powerful voice of the people locked away. From Kampala to Dar es Salaam, our struggle against generational dictatorships and electoral autocracy remains unified. A cage can restrain bodies, but it can never imprison the spirit of freedom ignited across the region. We stand with you, Chadema, and with you the great people of Tanzania, in rejecting the ongoing persecution. Aluta Continua!

Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu has been sentenced to four years in jail after being arrested on treason charges in April. The court instead convicted him of inciting unrest in a trial that has been widely condemned as politically motivated.

How do we, as a nation, in theory governed under the Rule of Law and the 2010 Constitution with Human Rights, especially the Right to Life and the requirement to produce in Court an arrested person within 24 hours, normalise these continuing abductions and extrajudicial executions? Release this young Lawyer Abshir A.Abdi immediately or charge him in Court. Abductions are by State Agencies, as we all know...

This conversation must be had. Judicial officers have in several occasions “forgiven” senior police officers found guilty of contempt. This has created a culture where the Inspector General of Police and those under his command feel they can violate court orders and will be forgiven anyway. I have always urged the judiciary to take seriously violation of its orders especially by state operatives because these operatives have a default setting to disregard court orders. If the judiciary gives the devil an inch on several occasions, there should be no surprises when that devil takes several miles. The judiciary must come up with strict sentencing guidelines against state contemnors because that is the only way to enforce respect for the rule of law.

“Today the High Court has confirmed what we have said from day one: the treason charge was a political fabrication. The prosecution failed to prove any intention to intimidate the government. Instead of ordering my release after 577 days in detention, the court has convicted me of an offence I was never charged with and never given a chance to defend. This is not justice. This is damage control. History will record how the court searched for a lesser charge simply to keep me in prison.” Tundu Antipas Lissu November 6, 2027 —Admin.

This year has to go on record that even advocates are not safe. The number of threats/intimidation to colleagues has been overwhelming! Last time I was threatened was after I won the Ruto Jet Cases! Before that, I had to stay with family in the US for almost 2 months.
