Literary scholars consider Jane Austen the equal of Dickens, Milton and Cervantes.
This “person” thinks that Jane Austen is only behind Shakespeare in English literature so the opinions are questionable at best.

this is so fucking stupid and a clear example of how the madonna-whore complex leads to performative males being just as misogynistic as the gooners they hate. she’s objectively a very hot woman but since guys see her as a little princess she can’t be ruined by horny thoughts

Just heard a Singaporean unironically tell a Londoner "your English is very good!" when making mutual introductions, life has come full circle.

4 years ago today - Elon Musk got mad at people constantly changing their names, so he made it so that any name changes would temporarily remove the checkmark from people's accounts people then reacted accordingly

Someone made a Linux script that emails Sam Altman every day to report how much unused RAM is sitting in your PC. Called Ram-Altman, it monitors your free memory and sends him a daily email if more than 10% is unused. It even includes different email messages and a test mode.

Let me try and explain: a Krispy Kreme uses water to make doughnuts which can be eaten and coffee which can be drunken. The workers wash their hands so the food is sanitary and the customers use the bathroom. In a data center, all that water is wasted with no treats.
Another unexpected comparison: one of our data centers uses about as much water in a year as a single Krispy Kreme store. Not the whole chain. One store.

I've always imagined it as the feeling you get when you jump off a boat and swim around, the bottom is unimaginably far and you can't reach it, it fills you with a different kind of dread

For uni I wrote a paper on the The Incredibles cinematography & I cannot begin to explain how excited I am that they have managed to capture the magic yet again. Just the colour grading alone. Wow.

Microsoft discovered most users never use 80% of the functionality. They had the idea they could market a 20% stripped down version. When they began talking to users they quickly discovered that yes, most users only use ~20% of the functionality, but they all use a different 20%.
There’s a thing that goes on in the discourse where it’s very easy to dismiss things that aren’t important to you. Like, if there were some debate in knitting, I could just dismiss the entire thing by saying, “knitting actually isn’t important and you should all shut up and stop knitting and we should just ban knitting so nobody ever has to hear about this.” In fact, I could do this with like 90% of everything. And so could you. And so could everybody else. We just wouldn’t agree on the 90%. Recognizing this fact, and realizing that it means that you’re going to have to come up with better and more convincing arguments than, “this thing is unimportant” demonstrates a bare minimum level of maturity.
