Riaz Hamidullah is a diplomat with a difference. He reached out to people in a way few envoys have. Sadly his tenure, in very trying times, has been short. He will be missed by the countless friends that he made. Bon voyage High Commissioner
#WATCH | Delhi: On the memories from his tenure in India, Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, says, "About three weeks ago, I was in the Kashmir Valley in Srinagar. From the airport, I drove straight to the DPS Srinagar school. Two things struck me. There were around 5,000 students, and I think almost 40 per cent of them were girls. Suddenly, I was approached by a Class 12 student called Fatima. She introduced herself as a radio jockey. I was surprised to learn that the school has been running a digital radio station. She took me into a radio studio and got into a conversation with me. The second question was really puzzling. I didn’t expect it from her. She asked me, “How do you look at borders?” Imagine — sitting in Srinagar, a young girl asking this question. I took it in absolute candour and gave my response, and when I was leaving, I heard young children singing a song. It was one of my favourite compositions of Allama Iqbal... So, what really struck me is that we always look at the lines that divide us, but we should also see how uniquely the larger part of the population keeps moving, without being mindful of the divisive lines or differences. That is one of the latest memories that will stay with me."

"It’s how people use the technology that’s the important thing. You put the technology out there and it can be used for ill or for good. And if they use it for good, I’m very happy. And if they use it for bad, I feel badly about it. But that’s the way life works. Technology is morally neutral; it’s how we use technology that determines everything." In his Nobel Prize interview, chemistry laureate John Goodenough spoke about technology and the responsibility we all have to use it wisely. Watch his interview here: nobelprize.org/prizes/chemis…

I was invited to address the @UN Security Council this afternoon to discuss the unprecedented threat posed by uncontrolled frontier AI agents. Humanity has summoned the courage and wisdom to manage catastrophic risks before. This is one of those moments, far bigger than any personal, commercial, or national interest. The choices we make about this technology today will shape generations to come. We must act now.

"If the frontier [AI] labs do achieve superintelligence, their capabilities will become extraordinary," writes expert Adam Segal. "They could launch cyberattacks, wield political influence, or fashion new and exotic weapons to seize power. U.S. policymakers need to ensure that there is a productive and predictable balance of power between AI firms and the state." The U.S. needs to ensure that there is a productive and predictable balance of power between AI firms and the state, he argues. "No such balance currently exists, as was shown in the late 2025–early 2026 fallout between Anthropic and the Pentagon over the deployment of AI for surveillance and autonomous weapons." "U.S. policymakers should aim to build strong relations with the firms and maintain a regulatory environment that supports innovation. Do that, and the United States will likely continue to lead the world in AI development."

Ten years ago UPI was just an idea, today it is the heartbeat of India’s #digital #economy. From 1.78 crore transactions in FY 2016–17 to over 24,162 crore in FY 2025–26, and from Rs 0.07 lakh crore in value to nearly Rs 314 lakh crore, the scale is staggering. India now processes 66 crore UPI transactions every single day. But beyond the numbers, the real story is how #UPI has made payments faster, simpler, more accessible and universal, shaping the next phase of India’s digital revolution. 8.7 crore young Indians between the ages of 15 and 29 are estimated to be outside #education , #employment or #training , according to a recent #NITI Aayog report @NITIAayog . We must focus on skilling rural youth, enabling them to become self-employed in their own villages. This will also help prevent migration. @Msvs_orgs , led by @Uma_Prabhu , has demonstrated the possibility of creating new opportunities in Konkan through #JanShikshanSansthan , supported by the Government of India. Over the last 26 years, it has trained more than 80,000 people, while also creating special programmes for farmers, fishermen, women and others. #Youth #Skilling #Employment #ViksitBharat
