The iPhone Duo could face a serious issue once it goes on sale: a less visible crease, but a less crisp, clear display. In some of the videos we’ve seen so far, the iPhone Duo’s inner display has a noticeably matte appearance, lacking the clarity and sheen of a glossy screen. This finish helps soften the reflections that make the crease stand out, but its effect on image quality could leave some users unhappy. A matte surface scatters ambient light to reduce reflections, but it can also scatter light coming from the display itself. That can make fine details look softer, introduce graininess on light backgrounds, and create a hazy appearance under certain lighting, affecting perceived contrast and clarity. So even with the latest M16 OLED materials, some of the visual benefits could be offset by the matte finish. However good the underlying panel is, its light still has to pass through the screen’s surface before reaching your eyes. This matters to me personally. I recently bought a monitor and deliberately chose a glossy screen because some matte displays look as though there’s a thin layer of haze over the image. I suspect plenty of people accustomed to glossy iPhone screens will notice the difference too. Of course, matte screens have the advantage of reducing reflections. We’ll need to see the actual phone to judge the trade-off properly, since videos can’t fully capture it. But the question Apple faces is clear: how much image clarity are users willing to give up for a less visible crease? A crease is most noticeable at certain angles. The screen’s overall appearance is something you live with every time you open the phone.

I’ve been asked by a lot of people on whether or not they should get the iPhone 18 Pro Max or iPhone DUO. If you are in the same boat, then this post is for you! Don’t fall into the hype trap unless you have the funds. Here are some objective truths between both phones: 1. The DUO has worse battery (4800 vs 5500 mAh); 2. Cameras (between 17e & base iPhone 17 quality); 3. Slightly lower sustained A20 Pro performance (either due to smaller VC cooling plate or TDP restrictions); 4. Bad aspect ratio in gaming (got to talk to a few CCs who gamed on the DUO during Apple event, but this is nothing new with current Android foldables); 5. Display durability and device longevity is less than 18 Pro Max (even with their scratch resistant coating); 6. (Subjective) DUO has no FaceID; 7. Lastly, DUO is heavier and more bulky (especially with protection cases). On the flip side the DUO offers multi-tasking and a portable iPad Mini experience (But ask yourself, how often are you multitasking on your iPad, tablet, or current device?). Therefore, you are objectively paying more for less if you choose the iPhone DUO over the 18 Pro Max. Hopefully this helps those “average consumers” who are not aware of these details and have been blowing up my DMs. PS: If you have excess funds and or a tech enthusiast, this post does not apply to you!

Omarchy has been on an incredible growth spurt over the last few months. We've distributed over a petabyte worth of ISOs in the last thirty days alone, which is enough for 150,000+ new installs. In total, we're well into the hundreds of thousands of ISO downloads. But what I care more about than the numbers are the anecdotes. I'm constantly hearing from people who switched from Windows or Mac to Omarchy and love this beautiful, modern, and opinionated Linux way. This is something the Linux diehards tend to forget. What seems like old hat to them ("Hyprland?! Psh, I ran i3 in 2006!!!") is completely revolutionary to most people who've never used a tiling window manager. If you've only ever used Windows or Mac, Omarchy is like traveling to a different computer dimension — full of strange, wonderful new colors and designs. There's still work to do before Linux is likely to take over the desktop for "normies". But that was never the mission for Omarchy. We've been targeting people who genuinely love computers, don't mind learning how they work, and are willing to invest time in memorizing hotkeys to be able to become much more proficient and efficient machine operators. That's surely a subset of all computer users, but tons of such people exist! And it's not just developers, although they make up the lion's share. I've also seen Omarchy get embraced by designers and writers. Not just because this is such a fresh, new take on what a computer can look and feel like, but also because, as a community, we've dumped the silly gatekeeping that for so long has hampered the adoption of Linux. It was part of the reason I didn't think Linux on the desktop was something for me personally for so long. So happy to have been proven wrong! And now I'm excited to help others come to the same conclusion. Omarchy is for anyone who loves computers ✌️
