NEWS: North America's Building Trades Unions @NABTU is endorsing the Senate's permitting reform bill, according to a letter to negotiators I obtained. BAAJA is a "significant step toward a more efficient permitting system that supports job creation" and "helps reduce costs".

Holy moly. JBLM went results went from 53%-44% Trump to 71%-28% Dem, a 51-point swing towards the Dems.

It’s not just Talarico and Peltola who embraced an all of the above energy policy. Check out these comments from Scott Colom, Adam Hamilton, and Annie Andrews. Notice anything in common?

As usual we are going to inherit a cursed Republican economy and build it back up just for President Jake Paul to inherit and destroy it in 2032, but we'll do it anyway because we love you America!!!

Congrats to James Talarico, man. I met him in a mental health facility a few weeks back and we became fast friends. Super inspiring to see what you’ve done

We looked into how permitting reform opponents previously came up with net emissions numbers from EPRA--assume every LNG project gets permitted, built, and exports at full capacity. It all gets sold... yet somehow rarely displaces other gas in the global LNG market. Zero substitution for coal or Russian gas, ever.
Telling choices.
A recurring argument by environmental lobbyists has been that permitting reform like BAAJA will unleash US LNG exports whose emissions outweigh any clean energy benefits. Our new analysis reexamines a prominent “study” by Symons Public Affairs that made similar claims about the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024—its results depended on absurdly pessimistic assumptions, which slash estimates by 55-80% when varied.

From where I sit, it appears the divide in the environmental community on permitting reform is between those who make money from expansion of renewable energy and reduction in CO2 (who support it) and those who make money from filing lawsuits (who oppose it).

The prelim analysis I obtained found passing BAAJA would lead to 167 gigawatts of more solar being deployed, 51% less natural gas capacity being added from 2028-2035, and power sector carbon emissions falling 20% during that period. Read it here punchbowl.news/baaja-impact-…

We keep having the same debate in circles.
Everyone agrees that to unleash clean energy requires a reform deal. But a reform deal requires concessions to oil and gas. The green groups prioritize fighting oil and gas over unleashing clean energy. Lather, rinse, repeat.
