💥 Turkey’s latest play: Defense Minister Yaşar Güler publicly offers Egypt a maritime deal, claiming Cairo would gain ~15,000 km² more sea than under any pact with Greece.
🎇 Turkey is openly trying to “bribe” Egypt with maritime territory that does NOT belong to it.
🔥A modern pirate state showing its mindset in full color.
This is textbook gunboat diplomacy from a state that refuses to sign UNCLOS, denies full maritime rights to Greek islands (Crete, Kastellorizo and others) and the Republic of Cyprus under its Blue Homeland doctrine, and treats the Eastern Mediterranean as its private domain while threatening those who disagree.
The timing is no accident. It comes right after Greece and Egypt agreed to continue consultations on extending their 2020 EEZ agreement — strictly on the basis of international law and UNCLOS — and after eastern Libya’s ratification of the illegal 2019 Turkey-Libya memorandum (which both Cairo and Athens correctly call null and void).
Ankara is trying to buy off Egypt with maps drawn from someone else’s continental shelf in order to isolate Greece and weaken Cyprus’s rights. Egypt has repeatedly shown it knows the difference: it respects its existing agreements, UNCLOS, and the reality that playing Ankara’s games damages its interests with Europe.
International law and island sovereign rights are not optional. Pirate charts are. 🇬🇷🇨🇾

💥Canada’s PM @MarkJCarney just delivered the political joke of the day while standing next to Erdogan.🙂
From the joint 🇨🇦🇹🇷 communiqué:
“As NATO Allies, Canada and Türkiye are bound together by shared values: human rights, individual liberties, democracy, and the rule of law.”
Reality check:
• Türkiye ranks 163rd of 180 on the 2026 World Press Freedom Index. Journalists, opposition figures, and civil society activists face routine arrests and prosecutions.
• It holds far more political prisoners than Putin’s Russia by most credible estimates, with thousands jailed for alleged Gülen links, Kurdish politics, or simply criticizing the president.
• It routinely ignores European Court of Human Rights rulings (including the long-running cases of Osman Kavala and Selahattin Demirtaş).
• It has carried out broad crackdowns on independent media, civil society, and LGBTQ+ groups.
• Erdogan and his government have repeatedly and openly backed Hamas — a group Canada designates as a terrorist organization — while hosting its operatives.
• It maintains the occupation of northern Cyprus, conducts military operations and maintains occupation zones in Syria and northern Iraq, and rejects UNCLOS while aggressively asserting expansive maritime claims that threaten neighbors Greece and Cyprus .
He even claims Jerusalem as an inheritance from the Ottoman glorious days
Canada previously froze and cancelled military export permits over diversion risks and human-rights concerns. Now the joint statement treats these fundamental differences as a shared foundation of “values.”
This is the classic polite Canadian performance: list the values for the cameras, set the actual record aside for trade, defense deals, and diversification away from the United States.
It is the diplomatic equivalent of smiling for the photo while the facts in the room reek of hypocrisy — the same selective outrage Canada deploys against other governments when convenient.
Mark Carney is forging a new strategic partnership with Turkey, a sponsor and enabler of the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, and he is so proud of it! 🙄
Carney's moral failure of justifying and endorsing terrorism is the least despicable! Canadians must be immensely elated of their PM.

💥The Libya setback for Greece shows that being a predictable, international-law-focused ally,no longer guarantees results in a transactional Mediterranean.🔥
In a Middle East where alliances are fluid, transactional, and increasingly untethered from old US-centric anchors, the eastern Mediterranean is becoming a test of who can operate in pure interest-driven CHAOS .
Eastern Libya’s ratification of the 2019 Turkey-Libya maritime MoU—long opposed by Greece—marks a clear setback for Athens. As Sean Mathews details in Middle East Eye, Greece’s partnerships with Egypt, the UAE, and Israel proved insufficient to block the move. Egypt and Turkey now converge on multiple fronts (Sudan, Somalia, opposition to Israeli expansion post-2023), the UAE is managing its differences with Ankara while backing Saddam Haftar’s ambitions, and Israel itself has engaged the Haftar camp (including a recent Netanyahu meeting with Saddam in UAE ).
A Turkish role in the east, by some Israeli calculations, may even tighten Greece’s dependence on Jerusalem.
Vassilis Nedos’s reporting aligns: Turkey and the UAE are jointly facilitating efforts to unify Libyan armed forces, while Israel has also sought a foothold in Benghazi. Libya politics remains moving sand.
This is not merely a bilateral Greece-Turkey or Greece-Libya problem. It reflects a broader reordering as the United States is in transition—less willing or able to underwrite regional security architectures. In that vacuum, states prioritize immediate gains (energy claims, political succession in Libya, countering rivals elsewhere) over consistent alignment with Greek or Cypriot maritime interests.
Greece and Cyprus cannot rely on the assumption that shared partners will automatically defend their positions. They must become sharper, more self-reliant actors: consolidate legal and operational control over their own maritime zones (including around Crete), deepen concrete economic and security stakes with WHOEVER delivers results, and treat the region as a competitive environment rather than a fixed alliance map.
🔥Real influence will come from demonstrated capacity to exercise power and selective, reciprocal partnerships—not from counting on yesterday’s alignments.
In a dangerous, multipolar Mediterranean, alertness and strategic autonomy are no longer optional.
💥”Why Greece's alliances failed to prevent eastern Libya's maritime deal with Turkey”
An interesting analysis by @SeanPmathews in @MiddleEastEye highlighting the background behind Eastern Libya approved the Turkey-Libya MoU on maritime zones

This is pretty much true from what I’m told. But don’t leave out the Israel component. Israel wants saddam in power too and a Turkish role there would, by Israeli calculations, make Greece even more dependent on Israel. Bibi met Saddam last month

Libya will face enormous problems. It has lost its credibility in the international community, and it will be left only with Turkey, which will exploit Libya.

Maximilian Krah ,a dangerous German politician !
AfD MP @KrahMax just completed a VIP visit to the illegal “TRNC” — the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus, a non-recognized entity controlled by ~40,000 Turkish occupation troops on one of the world’s most militarized territories.
He now gave an interview to @clashreport (a known Turkish narrative outlet) fully aligned and repeating Erdoğan’s line:
“The mistake was that in 2004 we had EU enlargement. This was important for Germany. And then Greece blackmailed us and said: ‘We will only agree to EU enlargement in southeastern Europe if you agree to Cyprus.’ German diplomacy is unfortunately weak. Instead of going into a fight, they allowed Greece to blackmail us. So now we have Cyprus in the EU with an unresolved Cyprus question.”
Greece pushed the EU in the right direction protecting European and Greek interests the same way Germany regularly protects its own.
This is revisionist. The Republic of Cyprus is the only internationally recognized state on the island and an EU member state. Its accession protected European legal and political interests and was aligned to UNSC resolutions to end the occupation. It was not the result of Greek “blackmail.”
The 1974 Turkish invasion, the expulsion of ~200,000 Greek Cypriots, the continued military occupation, and the large-scale settlement of mainland Turks (which has reduced native Turkish Cypriots to a minority in the north) remain the core of the problem.
@KrahMax :
Explain how this visit and the legitimization of an illegal occupation, ethnic cleansing, and demographic engineering serve German interests. How does undercutting the Republic of Cyprus and EU law advance a “patriotic” German foreign policy?
@Alice_Weidel @Tino_Chrupalla @Frohnmaier_AfD — Is this the line an AfD government would take?
Strong against Islamist entryism and subversion in Europe in words, yet willing to court Erdoğan’s Turkey (leader of the Muslim Brotherhood network and backer of Islamist terrorist groups) and treat the Turkish occupation of EU territory as a special case?
Will core principles be adjusted to appease Turkish-govt influence over diaspora voting blocs in Germany pushing again Germany to continue be a loyal ally to Turkish militarism by ignoring genocides and aggression/expansionism in the region posing a real threat to European security ?

Turkey just issued an anti-Navtex challenging the authority of Greece’s Heraklion station over the multinational #EUNOMIA live-fire exercise south of Kastellorizo (Oct 19).
The drill is run by Greece, France, Italy and Cyprus under the Quadripartite Initiative. Ankara is unilaterally claiming jurisdiction and reissuing the same coordinates.

💥Not a handful of incidents.
Not a few dozen.
659 Turkish military violations in just two months in Republic of Cyprus member of #EU
Not by Russia but by Turkey !
Cyprus has formally told the UN that Turkish drones, F-16s, helicopters and warships breached its airspace and territorial waters 659 times in June and July 2026 alone
That’s 626 air violations (203 by military drones including Bayraktar TB2, Anka, Akıncı and Aksungur; 192 by armed fighter jets) plus 33 naval violations involving missile boats, frigates, submarines and other warships that also used closed ports.
Ambassador Maria Michael at @CyprusinUN UN wrote that these are not isolated acts but a pattern of aggressive behaviour that undermines confidence-building efforts for a Cyprus settlement and heightens insecurity among Cypriots — in clear disregard of Cyprus’s sovereignty and the UN Charter.
