Cleveland-Cliffs’ CEO just admitted it: they bought Stelco in bad faith to kill Canadian competition, and Ontario steelworkers are paying with their futures. Ontario can’t stand on the sidelines. Ford and Carney must bring Stelco under public ownership and protect these jobs.
Cleveland-Cliffs CEO: I bought Stelco because I could not afford anymore having Stelco flooding the market here in the United States to the detriment of my own company. David Cochrane: Am I understanding you correctly there? It was a defensive acquisition?

We’re back at Queen’s Park. Doug Ford took 21 weeks off from the legislature. I spent that time in communities from Scarborough to Thunder Bay, and I heard one thing loud and clear: life is getting too expensive. Now Ford has a choice. He can show up for the people of Ontario, or keep helping himself and his insiders. We’re here to lower your costs and put money back in your pocket.

While largely unremarkable and unsurprising ,the electoral outcomes of municipal elections in Canada confirm my fundamental belief that we have a huge democratic asset. Common sense and decency .

10 RN positions eliminated at a Northern Ontario hospital. The question isn’t just who lost their job. What happens to the nurses who remain? What happens to patient safety? We cannot keep asking nurses to do more with less. #onpoli

Following the live brodcast last night on election organized by @bpellerin here are my 10 take-aways from Ottawa election. 1. This was a resounding victory for Mark Sutcliffe and an honourable defeat for Jeff Leiper. It's a much stronger Sutcliffe Council now. 2. Incumbency is king. Almost everyone was re-elected to Council. Once you win a seat on Ottawa Council, you can expect to keep it for a long time...perhaps even as long as you like. 3. Jeff Leiper's 33.9% puts him in the company of Alex Munter and Catherine McKenney. Is there an electoral ceiling for progressive mayoral candidates? 4. Don't blame Neil Saravanamuttoo. His 11% complicated Leiper's path, but vote-splitting alone doesn't explain Sutcliffe's victory. 5. What happened to Alex Lawson? Summer polling suggested a surge. Sept and Oct polls said something else. He finished fourth with 7.56%. He still has political future ahead. 6. Erin Coffin beat the odds. She unseated Allan Hubley, Ottawa's longest-serving incumbent. The only sitting councillor to lose. Quite an achievement. 7. Sean Devine held the line. Despite Tim Tierney and David Brown backing his challenger, Devine won comfortably. 8. Where were the voters? Turnout fell from 43.8% to 36.21%. Does a largely predictable election discourage participation? 9. The status quo prevailed. Mark Sutcliffe has four more years and an almost unchanged Council. Will his second term deliver more than business as usual? 10. If people want change on Ottawa Council, they have to start organizing now for 2030, not in the summer of 2029. @KenGray @pollingcanada @Stephen_Yardy @EmrysGraefe @dg_stringer @DavidColetto @VoiceOfFranky @niknanos @LeiperOttawa @AlexLawsonOtt @NeilOttawa And the Winner Is...Ottawa Council cityofottawapolitics.substac…

I created this photo using recent research so it relaxes your brain when you pause to look at the details. I'd so love to hear which is your favourite item in this collection (mine are the striped curlew feathers). As I'm sometimes too unwell to post here & the algorithm punishes creators who don't post every day, it would help so much if you could maybe RT my photo. Many thanks 🌿

Why is the WSIB eliminating 717 jobs, closing regional offices? They are replacing workers with AI. WSIB's CEO Jeff Lang recently gave a presentation on how "WSIB is deploying AI at extraordinary scale, beyond the reach of many top-tier insurers." #onpoli #wsib #tbsns

Mark Sutcliffe wins Ottawa mayoralty with 44% of the vote in a 36% voter turnout election: clearly not a galvanizing election. Only Councillor upset was in Kanata South: Erin Coffin defeats incumbent Allen Hubley. Election takeaway: women form majority (13 to 12) on City Council.
