#OTD in 1919, 13-year-old Antoni Petrykiewicz, one of the youngest Polish defenders of Lwów attacked by the Ukrainians, succumbed to his wounds.
Antoś was one of 1,421 Lwów defenders under the age of 18, called the Lwów Eaglets (Orlęta Lwowskie). To this day, he remains the youngest Pole to receive the Order of Virtuti Militari, the highest Polish military decoration.

Janusz Kusociński, winner of the 10,000 meters event at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, was one of the greatest athletes in Poland's history. He volunteered to defend Warsaw in 1939. Tragically, the Germans murdered him in Palmiry in 1940.

Today, we bid farewell to Jan Stankiewicz, co-owner of “Daquise”, the oldest Polish restaurant in London. It is thanks to people like Jan that the British fell in love with traditional Polish cuisine. Since 1947, “Daquise” has been attracting guests eager for delicious food, a good atmosphere, and excellent service. Jan was a wonderful host and a great Polish patriot. He will be deeply missed [*]
