Indian Railways has approved a new tri-weekly train service between Machilipatnam and Kurnool City via Vijayawada of South Coast Railway.
This will provide an additional rail connectivity option between coastal and central parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Railways Ministry said that the approved Machilipatnam-Kurnool City Express will cover a distance of nearly 500 km.
The new service will provide an additional travel option for the passengers of #AndhraPradesh and strengthen connectivity between Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Kurnool City, while also improving access to several towns and cities along the route.

This strategic project will significantly strengthen the East-West rail corridor, enhance connectivity between Rayalaseema, North Karnataka and Goa, improve logistics, decongest the existing network, and facilitate faster movement of passengers and freight.
With an investment of ₹1,264 crore, including nearly ₹600 crore in Andhra Pradesh, this project will boost industrial growth, improve connectivity to Krishnapatnam and the upcoming Ramayapatnam Port, create new economic opportunities, and benefit millions across Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
