A strangely peculiar inadequacy of expression has often encircled me when I have attempted to say something about Nirmal Verma. This essay has been written from a spring of no small effort to attempt to do justice to the legacy of the great writer that Nirmal Verma was. I hope it has not been in vain. Please read here:

Kannadiga intellectual U.R. Ananthamurthy once observed that whenever a Liberal grows bored, he tends to become a Conservative. Some might argue that this observation might well apply to Hindi Modernist writer Nirmal Verma.

I am looking for someone who understands Substack’s design and aesthetics and knows how to grow a publication on the platform. You should write regularly and be active on Substack yourself. This is a paid opportunity. If that describes you, or you know someone who fits, please DM me.
There's a peculiar feminine tendency that gravitates towards harboring intense aversion towards the person they once loved and now is no longer part of their life. Dostoevsky talks about it.

Rt in hope popularizing the term Goebellian Gandhi
It's staggering to my senses how when Trump shouts ‘stolen election’, he is roundly and rightly criticized by all of our goodie liberals but when this Goebellian Gandhi tries every time to reinforce the myth of ‘stolen elections’ in all his public rallies; something that is yet to be proven, there is a brazen attempt to accomodate him by them.

#WATCH | INDIA bloc mega rally | Delhi: Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi says, "Fifteen per cent of India's voters were removed from the voter list after the 2024 elections. This means the 2024 election was an illegal election. It was a stolen election. I am not the one saying this, the Election Commission is saying this."

The vanity of our opposition leaders to bemuse themselves through sordid indulgence in such comical spectacle only confirms that their judgement has been vitiated beyond a degree from which there is no coming back.
The #PublicImpeachment of CEC GyaneshKumar has begun! The National Anthem, followed by a powerful speech by presiding officer @meira_kumar, and now @incIndia President @kharge weighs in with a ferocious indictment. A full lawn in listening mode. World Bank: India has recorded "one of the fastest poverty declines in the world" 🇮🇳
The October 2026 World Bank Poverty and Equity Brief, released this week:
📉 Extreme poverty fell from 27.1% (2011) to 2.6% (2023)
👥 496 million Indians were lifted out of poverty in 12 years
For four decades after Independence, extreme poverty fell by only 15 points.
Since 2010, it has fallen by 25 points in 16 years.
What the World Bank credits:
→ Strong consumption growth
→ Rising employment, especially among rural women
→ Expanded social transfers, including food subsidies
For most of modern history, extreme poverty was the norm in India.
Today it is close to vanishing.
Learnt a lot about the role of Babu Kunwar Singh's brother: Babu Amar Singh in the revolt of 1857 and about how Britishers in their letters recognised the element of ‘national revolt’ in regions of Bihar.
A Kingdom renounced. A war inherited.
Amar Singh, the younger brother of the celebrated Babu Kunwar Singh, has long remained in the shadow of the latter's legacy. Yet, his role in the Revolt of 1857 was anything but insignificant. Babu Amar Singh, though sceptical of the rebellion, went on to become one of its most formidable leaders in Bihar during the revolt of 1857.

Still haven't quite forgotten day when we watched Kohli's first century against NZ in the school hostel.
God, it's been so long!

The Bihar Museum has been ranked No. 1 in Asia and among the world’s best!
This is a proud moment for Bharat, bringing its glorious civilisational legacy into the global spotlight. True to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of ‘Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi’, Bihar is embracing modern development while rekindling pride in its rich heritage and cultural identity.
If with a bitter mouth you will speak sweet words,
the world will neither sweeten nor become more bitter.
And it is written in the book that we shall not fear.
And it is also written,
that we shall change,
like the words,
in future and in past,
in the plural or in the solitary.
And soon in the coming nights we shall appear,
like wandering minstrels,
each in the other's dream.
And in these dreams
will be strangers
we did not know together.
