We have not yet begun to understand the near-term implications of this grotesque folly by Donald Trump, Pete Hegseth, and the entire Republican Party

Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda, on generative AI and the evolution of videogame creation:
'As you mentioned earlier, this is an era where even people who aren't game designers can make games. If we broaden the definition of a 'game,' I think the era has already arrived where everyone can make games. I had always thought it would be ideal for those boundaries to disappear, so I think this has become a very good era.'

Got a cheap embroidery machine off amazon for $300 where the biggest complaint is the mandatory $12/mo app that you’re forced to use. Had ChatGPT create its own app that communicates with the machine. Generative art patches incoming!

Galloway was expelled from Parliament for taking money from Saddam. Now he's on Iran's payroll:
Tucker Carlson and George Galloway have an absolute LOVEFEST over Vladimir Putin, praising him as:
“The most moderate figure in Russia,” “The most pro-European leader,” “A man of great restraint and longitudinal thinking.”
Carlson then, WITH A STRAIGHT FACE, actually applauds Putin for showing such remarkable "restraint" in not: “Responding with greater vigour to these attacks on Russian civilians, like, how long can he hold out?”
More than 17,600 civilians have been killed since Putin's invasion of Ukraine, with a Russian attack on 7 October killing five children, including three babies. Just days ago, a Russian drone strike killed 14-month-old Anhelina as she sat in her stroller in a Ukrainian park. Her mother also died.
And THIS is the man Carlson and Galloway are praising for his extraordinary “restraint.”

"Fame is a terrible metric of success."
This is all true. Even the part that @tszzl calls "mental illness." I'm patient #1 of all that.
My former partner, Shel Israel, warned me "fame can kill you" years ago. And he was right. I've seen it destroy people.
Living life in the public eye is something I've done for decades. Had a column in the computer programming magazine I worked for back in the 1990s. And a column at school newspapers back in the late 1980s.
@biz, who started this website, says that I'm the first influencer. Was the first to have 1,000 followers here on X, for instance.
And it has led to a glorious life, except for when I was shamed for my behavior at parties. Having your worst behavior on the front of USA Today and the New York Times is something I don't wish on my worst enemy.
That said, Grok now knows how I think. And knows me better than I know myself. Which is a big advantage to having my Grok Bots look out for me and do tasks on my behalf.
To me the luxury of privacy isn't that you wouldn't know what I'm doing, thinking, or acting on, but that I wouldn't need to care about it anymore.
Which, I still do.
The worse problem is the addiction that comes from watching all of you ship new things, and talk on X about them.
If someone said "here's $10 million to give both things up" I'm sure I'd try to go live in a forest somewhere and never check X again.
But my brain would go insane for a while in such a situation.
That said, fame has many benefits.
I've gotten to tour the world, visited things that most people will never be able to do. Neil Young took me into his studio, for instance. I've been on the decks of aircraft carriers. Most of the 4,000 people underneath never could do that even though they live on the ship. I've been to prisons, sewage treatment plants, and many people's homes around the world.
The thing I love, all the way back to being a kid, is seeing new things and meeting the people building them.
In an hour I'm having dinner with another.
All because of my fame.
When I got my job at Microsoft everyone knew I was there. It was one reason why I was able to interview 600 people, from Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, down to the HR person who drives candidates around on their job interviews.
No one has been able to duplicate that since. In fact, I don't know anyone who has been able to do that inside a major company since either.
This is why I join so many spaces. Love talking with people about things I've seen, companies I've visited, people I've met, and what it all means.
Thank you. My life is a lot better with you than without you. And if I'm a little insane once in a while, well, now you know. There is a lot of insanity in my head. :-)

MAGA says Ilhan Omar isn't using her real name.
Melania Trump was born Melanija Knavs.
Ted Cruz was born Rafael Edward Cruz.
JD Vance was born James Donald Bowman.
Nikki Haley was born Nimarata Nikki Randhawa.
Mike Johnson's real first name is James.
Rand Paul is Randal Paul.
Newt Gingrich was born Newton Leroy McPherson.
But suddenly MAGA wants a congressional investigation into names?

I agree. The allegations are so numerous and so specific, and the denials so broad, that they are startling to read.
If even a fraction of the allegations have a significant factual basis, this will be a scandal for the ages.
The questions the Vanity Fair journalist Matthew Cole asked Kushner's lawyer reveal that this scandal is huge, much bigger than today's article covers.
Matthew Cole has sure done his homework, and I can confirm some of it by following the Trump campaign and administration over the years. Now Kushner is trying to pretend he kept his head in the sand and knew nothing.

No, @elonmusk, the U.S. stopped funding Ukraine last year. In fact, U.S. companies make money on American weapons for which we Europeans pay.
The more you meddle in our politics and the more you play politics with your products, the more you damage your brand.

And some of that US taxpayer money comes back through multiple laundry machines to fund political campaigns in America, which is why you see some politicians caring more about Ukraine than America!

Most people know Dr. Peter Hotez from his television appearances during COVID, his defense of vaccination, and the relentless attacks directed at him on social media.
I know Peter as a friend. And I want to tell you about another part of his life that rarely enters those arguments.
For more than four decades, Peter has devoted much of his scientific career to diseases that afflict some of the poorest people on Earth. Diseases that cause enormous suffering but attract relatively little commercial investment because the people who need treatment often cannot afford to pay for it.
Hookworm. Schistosomiasis. Chagas disease. Leishmaniasis.
These are hardly household names. Their victims rarely make headlines, and the scientists working on them seldom become celebrities.
Peter chose this field long before COVID, long before the cable news appearances, and long before strangers began calling him a pharmaceutical industry shill.
His career deserves a closer look.
Because the work tells a story that is almost entirely absent from the accusations made against him.

The Vietnamese may be the best anti-imperialists in history, having fought off Imperial China, the Mongols, France, America, and modern China.
In contrast, the Armenians may be the worst, having been subjugated by the Persians, Arabs, Turks, Mongols, and Russians.

And yes, it uses the same mRNA technology behind the COVID vaccines!
