I love seeing the creators of the protein ad being celebrated. Best ad Iโ€™ve seen in years! Now, who were the people who made that Ramaswamy ad? We should know their names and they should never work in politics again.
Important people know the backstory of this ad. @patrickgaspard gave me the idea to take her inexcusable gaffe and do something edgy with it that could get attention. My content creator, @RyanSayles_ directed and edited it. He should be considered the breakout-star of this cycle. Heโ€™s going to be a giant in the media consultant game. He did GAME CHANGING work with SO little.

Respect. This shouldnโ€™t need to be said. But many people in the GOP need to hear it. Ramaswamy and the consultants who made that ad should never work in politics again.
I have been holding my tongue about something that happened during the Ohio gubernatorial race. I refused to speak while the election was underway because I did not want my words mistaken for an attempt to influence anyoneโ€™s vote. But now that the election is over, I have something to say. For nearly twenty years, my ministry has taken me among the homeless, the abused, the exploited, and the forgotten. I have sat with victims of sexual violence and witnessed the lifelong wounds of childhood trauma. What Vivek Ramaswamyโ€™s campaign did to Amy Acton was among the most morally repulsive things I have witnessed in American politics. They took a woman whose stepfather was indicted for raping her when she was twelve years old and featured her mother, from whom she had been estranged for nearly fifty years, in a political advertisement attacking her credibility. The advertisement challenged Actonโ€™s account of her childhood without mentioning the sexual abuse allegations or the circumstances of that estrangement. When people expressed their horror, the campaign defended it. Imagine examining another personโ€™s childhood suffering and fractured family relationships, then deciding those wounds might help win an election. Anyone who has worked with survivors of childhood sexual abuse understands the painful realities of denial, betrayal, shame, and estrangement. A child growing into a successful adult does not erase what happened. Nor does a parentโ€™s denial make that suffering disappear. I find it equally disturbing that an elderly mother, whom Acton herself described as unwell, was brought into this spectacle. Whatever her own struggles or responsibility for the past, exploiting that fractured relationship was grotesque. To everyone who defended this, consider the message you sent to survivors. To the young woman whose family refuses to believe her. To the man who has carried the shame of childhood abuse for forty years. To the frightened child who has yet to tell anyone. What did you teach them about the value of their suffering? I am a priest. I believe in repentance, forgiveness, and redemption. But none of those things requires me to pretend that deliberate cruelty is anything less than a grave moral failure. Your political allegiance does not absolve you of moral responsibility. You do not get to set aside your conscience during an election and retrieve it afterward. If your loyalty requires you to defend the exploitation of a childhood sexual abuse survivor, your loyalty has become an idol. And if your conscience cannot recognize the wrong here, examine what political tribalism has done to it. This is not about Republicans or Democrats. We have a choice as a people: continue excusing cruelty from our preferred political camp, or summon the courage to condemn it wherever it appears. Amy Acton deserved better. Every survivor who watched this unfold deserved better. And God help us if we have reached the point where winning an election matters more than protecting the dignity of a wounded human being.

It would be an historic own-goal if Democrats used their victory to work with the repudiated Trump in order to allow Big Tech build to gas pipelines to data centers without environmental review. ๐Ÿ™ƒ
Head of @USCleanPower Jason Grumet says on a press call that BAAJA in the lame duck "is the first test of Democrats' willingness to make the tough choices needed to actually reduce energy prices." Clean energy industry trade group standing by the bipartisan permitting bill

Fetterman spent the last two years being an enormous asshole, secure in his assessment that Dems would need him in 2027. That turned out to be a bad bet!
It's the end of John Fetterman's political power as a Democrat. Up until recently, it was a real possibility that he could be *the* kingmaker, with the threat of a party flip constantly a live ball. Today, it's irrelevant โ€” Democrats have 54 Senate seats and could go to 56.

The GOP used to be sane.
Bad policy, bad character make bad politics: erratic tariffs, impulsive Iran war, blanket pardons, apparent corruption, weaponized justice, ICE brutality, mountainous deficits, hiding Epstein, abandoning allies and coddling enemies. Hoping for a course correction, for the country and for my party.

Will Dems pass a bill heavily shaped by Mike Lee, determined foe of public lands and environmental law, just as they are about to take control of the Senate?
I think having won an election on a strong affordability message, Democrats should pass the affordability bill.

This is a pivot, and BAAJA is not an affordability bill. BAAJA is estimated to save US households just pennies a day. BAAJA is an all of the above energy bill that makes it possible to build natural gas pipelines directly to data centers with no environmental review.
I think having won an election on a strong affordability message, Democrats should pass the affordability bill.

Will Dems now tie themselves to a bill that was written when Mike Lee and the GOP were in a dominant position of strength?
Dems shouldn't wait on permitting. BAAJA is a good bill, and the filibuster and veto don't go away in January. But the real reason is 2029: as @ppavnr & I argued in @WSJ, reform takes years to implement, and we need to hit the ground running, especially on energy affordability.

As the great philosopher Eminem once said "you only get one shot, do not miss this chance to blow. this opportunity comes once in a lifetime."
If the projected margin of 258 seats bears out it will be the first time a US political party has had a House margin that big since 1990.

There were so many boomerang effects, where Trump and the Republicans profoundly underestimated the demand of the American people to defend and protect their rights, their democracy, and the quest for justice.
Republican voter suppression tactics had a boomerang effect in Georgia, says author Carol Anderson: "You want to take away my voting rights? Not today, Satan."

The political mood music for BAAJA could not be starker. Voters hate data centers. They hate Republicans. Don't negotiate an "all of the above" more electricity plan to fuel data center demand with lame duck Republican Chairs! Have regular process!
Data center moratoriums going 41-0 is wild

This. If this bill is so important, strip out the crap parts and stick it to Trump and the GOP. Make them say no. Personally, I think they are in no position to do that.
Crazy idea re: permitting reform: What if, rather than passing a shit sandwich GOP bill that guts our environmental laws in a lame duck session right after winning historic majorities, maybe wait two months to pass a transmission bill without the shit and dare Trump to veto it?

Among other things, this is an absolute rebuke of the war in Iran. Democrats would be wise to heed that lesson and truly become the anti-war party.

This initiative has passed: called by the AP. The fight will move to the courts but it is an unequivocal, bipartisan repudiation by voters of Michigan's two investor-owned utilities as toxic entities.
Michigan's first-of-a-kind proposal to ban monopoly utilities from making campaign contributions is soaring, fueled by populist outrage at rate increases and utilities' obscene political spending. Extremely early but this is coming in from red and very blue counties alike.
