"The regime in Ethiopia has historically utilized prolonged detention and court proceedings while being mistreated during detention against political advocates and opposition figures leading to their death or total incapacitation, as seen in the case of the late Prof. Asrat Woldeyes.
There are already signs of this happening with the severe health deterioration Dr. Wondwossen Assefa is facing while in detention. " - @GPEthiopia
What more needs to be said! If they are not released soon what we are facing is the grim reality of losing them all! Release them while they are alive! This is a known tactic, you will all be accountable for knowingly subjecting them to treatments that will eventually cause their death. This is no different from murder! The only difference is the implicit hope of freedom is more agonizing for friends, family, the people that love them and themselves! While knowing full well you are killing them slowly with no due process of law convicting them to such harsh injustice!
RELEASE THEM NOW!

GPE Red Alert (Urgent)
Status of 28 Detainees in Ethiopia [UPDATE-3]
October 15, 2026
🚨 ETHIOPIA LIFE THREATENING DETENTION ALERT: 28 political prisoners face severe health risks after refusing conditional pardon terms that restricted their civil rights. Reports indicate they have been placed in isolation with restricted medical care and family visits👇
The regime in Ethiopia has historically utilized prolonged detention and court proceedings while being mistreated during detention against political advocates and opposition figures leading to their death or total incapacitation, as seen in the case of the late Prof. Asrat Woldeyes.
There are already signs of this happening with the severe health deterioration Dr. Wondwossen Assefa is facing while in detention.
GPE therefore calls for the unconditional release of all 28 detainees, citing the lack of established guilt after three years of detention. To ensure lifesaving treatment is afforded to detainees quickly they should instantly be released on bail to their families pending processing of their unconditional release.
READ The full report containing 3 annexes that has details on the detainees recent petition for the court, their list, pictures as well as GPE's two last updates regarding the case through the link below.

URGENT ALERT: HAVE THE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS OF AMERICAN RESIDENTS BEEN COMPROMISED?
Has an Ethiopian immigrant residing in Alabama accessed the Social Security numbers of Ethiopian and Eritrean diaspora members without authorization? Or, even more troubling, were such records purchased on the dark web?
These are serious questions that demand answers from Alabama and U.S. federal authorities.
Mr. #Habtamu_Challa_Gurmu (@Habtishgreat) has repeatedly made disturbing public claims concerning his possession of other individuals' sensitive personal information. The attached screenshot, dated December 22, 2023, shows an account attributed to him boasting that he could easily obtain another person's security information, just as he claimed to have done with @1juxa. The account associated with that historical screenshot was subsequently reported suspended.
I am also attaching an audio recording and its English transcription in which Mr. Challa reportedly claims, “I have your Social Security number,” and refers to possessing information associated with that number.
The fundamental questions for Alabama are these:
Did this individual obtain Americans' Social Security numbers without authorization? Did he acquire confidential records through employment, third parties, commercial databases, or the dark web? Has he actually possessed or disclosed such information, or were his statements intended to intimidate and terrorize members of the diaspora?
And there is an even more troubling question.
How can Alabama entrust its most vulnerable residents to the care of an individual who publicly boasts about obtaining other people's security information?
Mr. Challa has reportedly been associated with True Care, an organization providing services to vulnerable individuals in Alabama. His precise employment responsibilities, access permissions, and any involvement with Medicare or Medicaid beneficiaries must be established before conclusions are drawn.
Nevertheless, the public deserves answers. Are the Social Security numbers and confidential records of vulnerable clients secure? Could any information accessible through his reported employment have been compromised? Is there any evidence that such information has been offered or made available on the dark web?
These questions do not establish that a data breach, identity theft, or unlawful disclosure has occurred. They establish why the recorded claims warrant careful examination by competent authorities.
I have repeatedly raised concerns about Mr. Challa's alleged pattern of online harassment, public statements about sensitive personal information, and reported history of X account suspensions. His principal account, @Habtishgreat, was reportedly suspended before becoming active again. Other previously reported suspended handles include @HabtishGurmu (also written @habtishgurmu) and @gurmuchalla.
This is no longer merely a question of social media harassment. It is a question of privacy, public trust, safeguarding vulnerable individuals, and the integrity of sensitive personal records.
I respectfully urge the FBI, Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General, Alabama Attorney General, and relevant Medicare and Medicaid oversight authorities to examine the recordings, authenticate the statements, establish whether any protected information was accessed or disclosed unlawfully, and determine whether an investigation is warranted.
The people of Alabama deserve answers. Vulnerable individuals deserve protection. And Americans deserve to know that their Social Security numbers are secure.

As civilians are massacred in Oromia, Arsi, and Amhara, donors must stop providing unchecked financial support to Ethiopia’s government.
WE DEMAND ACTION:
• Suspend aid that enables abuses.
• Audit every dollar and euro.
• Sanction officials credibly implicated in atrocities.
• Hold perpetrators accountable.
No more blank checks. No more diplomatic cover. Stop financing impunity. Make accountability a condition of every aid package.

.@HouseForeignGOP glad that you showed your concern, please check @GPEthiopia, @AAA_Amhara @AmericaEthiopia and other independent OSINT sources that are solely established to be a voice for the voiceless people in Ethiopia, these are civic organizations that are run on a volunteer basis supported by the concerned Ethiopian diasporas.
Cross checking your information with such sources that have a firm connection with the victims on the ground ensures that media that had known biases in the past will not control how such human rights incidents are reported going forward. Time and again Addis Standard has injected biased information regarding either victims or perpetrators of such attacks against ethnic Amharas and Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia in the past.
I am grateful that they are reporting on the incident, but it is important that the narrative around these incidents is not maneuvered or controlled in a such a way that will deter victims from getting justice and for perpetrators to get unwarranted cover due to reporting that lacks clarity regarding perpetrators while the information already exists from what survivors and other data indicate.

A question that need to be asked first whenever an atrocity take place anywhere. Regardless, of who the perpetrators are, as long as the monopoly of violence stays with thr government, it should b3 able to stop it. Once or twice it can be blamed on the attacks being accidental but recurring attack for years? That happens either thru thr States active planning or thru kts tacit agreement.
For the record, that is what is happening in #Ethiopia too. State sponsored atrocities.

Washington Update: How Many More Innocent People Must Die Before the World Takes Action?
For far too long, targeted violence against Christian women, children, religious leaders, and innocent civilians in the Arsi region of Oromia, Ethiopia, has continued without an adequate response from the international community. This ongoing tragedy cannot be allowed to continue in silence.
Reports of atrocities committed by armed groups, including attacks on religious communities and the destruction of churches and private property, are deeply disturbing. The Ethiopian government has repeatedly failed to fulfill its fundamental responsibility to protect innocent civilians, safeguard religious freedom, and hold those responsible for these crimes accountable.
How many more innocent lives must be lost before meaningful action is taken? How many more families must suffer before the world responds?
Silence and inaction cannot be the answer. We must stand together to demand justice, accountability, and protection for the innocent people of Arsi and throughout Ethiopia.
I urge all Ethiopian Americans, human rights advocates, religious leaders, and concerned citizens to join this urgent advocacy campaign.
Please take a few minutes to contact your U.S. senators and representatives and urge them to address the ongoing human rights and humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia.
You can participate by using the letter provided below, which is ready to send to your elected representatives. Your voice matters, and every letter can help raise awareness and encourage action.
Together, we can amplify the voices of the voiceless and call on our elected officials to press for civilian protection, an independent investigation into reported atrocities, and accountability for those responsible.
Let us break the silence. Let us demand justice. Let us act before more innocent lives are lost.
Thank you for your support and commitment to defending human rights, religious freedom, and human dignity in Ethiopia.

Yes, THAT'S what matters -- reputation. 🤦♂️ Not the victims, not the families being persecuted. Exactly the thinking we've all come to expect from retired US diplomat douchebags.
Also, he makes it sound like this has just started. It's been going on FOR YEARS. 🙄
Ethiopia has enough internal problems without adding major religious conflict to the list. Would be awful for country's reputation to have inter-religious fighting compared to Nigeria's historic Muslim herder-on-Christian farmer violence. Stop it!

.@AFNM_FA calls for
"
1. The United Nations and the African Union to give the situation in Arsi and Wollega urgent attention, support independent investigations, and take appropriate measures to protect civilians and prevent further atrocities.
2. International and regional human rights institutions to document reported violations, preserve evidence, and pursue appropriate legal proceedings through competent national or international mechanisms, where the applicable legal requirements are met.
3. Relevant international and regional bodies to consider targeted sanctions and other appropriate measures against individuals and entities credibly implicated in serious human rights violations, in accordance with applicable legal frameworks and due process.
4. Humanitarian organizations and international partners to support affected communities by facilitating access to emergency medical care, food, shelter, psychosocial support, and other essential humanitarian assistance.
The international community must not allow repeated atrocities against civilians to become normalized. The protection of innocent lives must take precedence over political considerations, and credible allegations of mass atrocities must receive a timely, impartial, and effective response."

Amhara Fano National Movement Condemns Genocidal Massacres in Arsi, Wollega and Other Parts of Ethiopia: An Urgent Call for International Action
The Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) strongly condemns recent genocidal massacres and acts of violence which has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands in Arsi, Wollega and other parts of Ethiopia. AFNM extends its deepest condolences to families of victims and to communities mourning the tragic loss of loved ones. AFNM calls for immediate protection of vulnerable communities, credible independent investigations and urgent humanitarian relief.
AFNM has received the following information of relevant incidents involving genocidal violence against Amhara civilians and followers of the Orthodox Christian faith in Arsi and Wollega since October 20:
Over 60 killed in two attacks in Arsi: 14 in Merti district on October 20 and 46 in Sherka district on October 24. Gunmen surrounded families in their homes, opened fire, and burned houses to the ground. More than 20 people remain hospitalized with serious injuries.
More than 300 killed in East Wollega and Horo Guduru Wollega since October 21; more than 40 killed in Abe Dengoro district on October 26 alone, many with machetes and knives. Survivor accounts indicate that women, children, and older persons were among the victims. Beyond the civilian toll, over 13 villages and three churches burned down, and more than 160,000 residents displaced from Gida Ayana since August.
These incidents are not isolated and represent a pattern of state-sponsored violence with involvement from political and military officials at the federal and regional levels. For example, in Arsi, security forces stationed nearby refused to intervene while families were being killed. In the aftermath, authorities offered no condemnation, and no arrests were made. In Wollega, the violence was perpetrated directly by federal and Oromia regional security forces alongside militias, backed by sophisticated weaponry. In the majority of incidents, communications services were shut off during and after the attacks.
AFNM calls upon the international community to move beyond expressions of concern and adopt concrete measures in response to reported mass killings and other grave human rights violations. Continued international inaction risks undermining the principles of human dignity, civilian protection, and accountability.
AFNM therefore call upon:
The protection of innocent lives must take precedence over political considerations, and credible allegations of mass atrocities must receive a timely, impartial, and effective response.
